Novy Undercover the New Invisible Hob

Yes, you read that correctly, the new Novy Undercover induction hob by the Belgian luxury induction, extraction and lighting brand is for all intents and purposes, invisible.

However, despite the name Novy has not confirmed or denied if their new invisible 'Undercover' induction hob is working for our police or intelligence services. Apparently the Undercover name and the fact that it is completely integrated into a 20mm thickness Dekton worktop is the limitation of its undercover work.

Questions still remain however. Like how does it work and can I have one?

Novy Undercover Induction Hob - Innovation Pushing New Boundaries

Most new kitchen, bathroom and bedroom (kbb) products tend to offer marginal improvements over the products that came before them. A small percentage point more efficient here, or the same performance there, but cheaper...

There is a pattern of gradual evolution to product design in general rather than true innovation, so when something like the Novy Undercover comes along, its great for the kbb industry as true innovation helps keep the market competitive and vibrant, which is usually in the best interests of manufacturers and consumers alike.

How Does the Novy Undercover Work?

The key to the Novy Undercover is that Novy have looked at worktops, looked at induction hobs and thought, 'induction hobs are minimalist by nature, but how can we take this to the highest level' and then worked with Cosentino to engineer an exclusive solution using only Cosentino Dekton worktops.

The end result is truly amazing and to see them in action is an eye opener as there has been nothing like it before.

With the induction hob fully integrated into a 20 mm Dekton worktop, the induction coils sit under the worktop surface and for all intents and purposes, are truly invisible, save for the centrepoints which contain temperature sensors. These sensors accurately detect your cooking pots and pans while cooking and automatically adjust the flexible heating zones to match the size of your pan.

With a choice of 3 or 4 powerful cooking zones, each with an output of 3,700 W and dimensions up to 280 mm, you will enjoy top performance just as you would on a high-end induction hob., albeit undercover.

The hob is controlled via a wireless controller. No extra accessories are needed. As with any normal induction hob, you just place your desired cookware directly on the worktop and start cooking right away on this invisible induction cooktop.

The Novy Undercover needs a minimum depth of 600mm its 20mm thick Dekton worktop but it can be integrated into any format of kitchen from a small galley, or put on an island or peninsula. So long as there is that minimum depth of 600mm.

There are 40 different durable 20mm thickness Cosentino Dekton worktops to choose from.

Being truly integrated and invisible, the multifunctional nature of the worktop optimises your kitchen space even more, whether you’re cooking, working or dining and the scratch and stain-resistant Dekton surface makes cleaning easy and keeps the induction hob surface more resistant to damage over standard induction hobs.

What about Safety with Invisible Heat Sources?

As with any hob and especially induction hobs that can still be hot for a good 10 minutes after being switched off, safety is a huge consideration and the Novy Undercover is no different.

Just as with a visible induction hob, once turned off and there is no glow to the induction coil visible, the surface can remain hot for several minutes after and just like with visible induction hobs, the Novy Undercover has warning indicators.

Subtle LED indicators show whether the cooking zones still contain residual heat, both on the worktop, via the Novy Controller and optionally with an LED indicator projected on the floor (optional - shown left).

When the cooking zones have cooled down sufficiently, the indicator automatically turns off.

Working with Cosentino

Jenny Nalborczyk, marketing manager at Middleby Residential Luxury Channel, the brand owner behind Novy said: “Working with Cosentino to train its specialist fabricators, our R&D and technical teams in Belgium have invested years of research to ensure that the Novy Undercover is the most powerful invisible hob on the market. We are delighted to be presenting the Novy Undercover concept to architects and interior designers at Clerkenwell Design Week, in advance of its official launch in the Autumn.”
