‘Kitchen market may contract again’, says Howdens CEO

After enduring a difficult trading year in 2024 Kbb market, trade kitchens giant Howdens were nevertheless able to reporting similar revenues to the year, but Howdens CEO Andrew Livingston has warned that the UK kitchen market may contract again in 2025.

Commenting on the future of the kbb industry and the likelihood that the kitchen market may contract again, Livingston stated: “Given the prevailing macroeconomic environment, we expect market conditions to remain challenging and we anticipate that the total kitchen market may contract again this year..", whilst adding that he believes that the trade kitchens giant Howdens is “well prepared for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead”.

Howdens chairman Peter Ventress has also commented, saying that, “During the year Howdens continued to face into an uncertain geopolitical and macroeconomic environment, which remained a significant headwind in our end-markets. In particular, during 2024 the kitchen market in the UK fell for a third successive year and remains at cyclical lows versus long-term average volumes.”

He continued: “The Group has delivered another year of strong progress and while the macroeconomic and geopolitical environment remains uncertain, our business model is resilient, and we continue to look to the future with confidence.”

Kbb News - Trade kitchen giant Howdens Bucks Kbb Downward Trend 2024

When you consider that well known Kbb brands such as kitchen door manufacturer Multiwood, Mereway Bathrooms, Homebase, KCM Kitchens almost others went into administration and Swedish kitchen manufacturer Nobia saw its profits plunge in 2024, that Trade kitchen giant Howdens closed 2024 with revenues that were roughly “in line with last year” thus weathering a very difficult trading year in the Kbb sector is something that bucks the downward trend of 2024 and should be applauded.

Nevertheless, we at Kitchens-Kitchens dont think there are many in the Kbb industry that have started 2025 thinking this was going to be anything other than a challenging year and that the likelihood that the kitchen market may contract again in 2025 is more likely, than not.
